The Lafayette Suburban Junior Women’s club (Lafayette Juniors) is a nonprofit organization created to support Lafayette and surrounding communities. It was chartered in 1953 with a primary focus of helping seniors, women and children. For over 50 years, the Lafayette Juniors have given countless hours and numerous dollars through fundraising and service activities. Through their efforts, members experience the joy of giving to others and in return, gain long-lasting friendships and a stronger connection to the community.
Our fundraising efforts include an annual Rummage Sale and our signature event, The Lafayette Juniors Kitchen Tour. Held every fall, the Rummage Sale earns valuable charitable dollars and services an important need in the community. Our springtime Kitchen Tour is host to six newly remodeled kitchens, all in Lafayette, offering a variety of designs for every taste and budget. It has become a Lafayette tradition and one many look forward to year after year.
For 2007-2008, the members have selected the following organizations: Contra Costa Interfaith Housing, Futures Explored,Center for Early Intervention of Deafness (CEID),JF Kapnek Trust, and Senior Helpline Services.
Many organizations benefit from the generous number of hours given by our members. For seniors, Lafayette Juniors hand write cards for Senior Helpline Services. Hundreds of heart-shaped comfort pillows are hand-sewn and donated to local hospital for breast cancer surgical patients. Knit or hand-knotted fleece blankets are given to VESTIA which distributes them to children recently removed from their homes.
